FIXING MICHIGAN'S BROKEN UNEMPLOYMENT SYSTEM
Michigan is unique in every way. Our leadership should reflect the values of Northern Michigan that makes this a special places to call home.
Welcome to my online campaign headquarters! As I introduce myself to you over the next few months, I want to take a moment to tell you why I am running for office. I believe in building strong communities. Strong communities build strong leaders. Some are motivated to run for office because they have an axe to grind or want to settle a score against a state department or they felt someone did them wrong. I am motivated by building stronger communities to call home and partnering with all of our stakeholders to make our quality of life better.
Service is about putting others first and caring about their needs. Revenge political is about yourself. We need less people running against something and more running for something and I am for making our communities stronger. We do that by ensuring people earn higher wages, that our constitution is defended and life is held sacred.
My story is uniquely Northern Michigan. My roots are well established here dating back to my Great, Great, Great Grandfather, Bill Bennett. He was a local politician and father of the nine Bennett Boys. His legacy, the Bennett School house, still stands in Antrim County just south of East Jordan . My grand parents, parents and I all graduated from East Jordan High School and I am a strong advocate for Northern Michigan!
I graduated from Lake Superior State University with a degree in Finance & Economics as well as a degree in Business Administration, Management. After 3 years in the banking industry, I began working as substitute teacher and then was hired by Boyne City High School to teach vocational courses in business and marketing. After five years, I transitioned to Mancelona Schools for two years teaching middle and high school students. I believe strongly that our students need the best education to prepare them for the workforce, this is one reason I will be a strong advocate for vocational training in our schools including auto and wood shop, building trades, welding and line worker programs.
The flexibility of my schedule afforded me the opportunity to serve as the District Director for Senator Wayne Schmidt for the past 3 1/2 years. I traveled the district listening to your concerns and finding solutions to fit your needs. I hope to continue that service as your next State Representative.
Working for the National Rifle Association - Institute for Legislative Action, I pushed issue advocacy for the NRA and worked tirelessly to defend the Second Amendment. When I ran for office in 2014, I receive an A- rating from the NRA and promise to defend our Constitutional Right!
At the age of 20, I was appointed to the East Jordan City Commission to fill a vacancy. My community trusted me at that age to serve the residents of the city and that remains one of my greatest honors as it started my public service commitment. I returned to college and elected to not run for the seat, however, I ran in 2011 and won a term on the City Commission where I was elected Deputy Mayor. While on the Commission, I successfully cut taxes and helped to grow the rainy day fund to ensure the citizens received the services they expected!
I am ready to continue being a public servant and I ask for your support and look forward to getting to know each other over the next few months of this campaign.
